Doing the West Kernow Way in reverse, you'd turn left here onto the A394 for about 300 metres.

The West Kernow Way turns left onto the A394 for about 300 metres.

The obvious coastal route into Falmouth - open for two-way motor traffic, although one-way with two-way cycling might be preferable.

Cross the A394 here for a quiet route down into Helston

A slightly more direct back lane taking cyclists off the A394 for a couple of miles (signed as a dead-end to the right, though you could reach the A394 and Porthleven if you wanted)

A slightly more direct back lane taking cyclists off the A394 for a couple of miles

New housing off the Helston bypass - car-dominated, of course, but with traffic-calming and the roads are relatively narrow and don't encourage fast driving.

Start of lane to Malpas and St Clement

When I was young (about 50 years ago) this was a T-junction with the road to Gweek and Mawgan to the left - now diverted around the south side of RNAS Culdrose.

Flyover within RNAS Culdrose - there's no need for people cycling to work here to cross the A3083 on the level here.

The road parallel to the A394 now appears to just be a lay-by - it would be good to sign it to get cyclists off the A road.

There are lots of handy cut-throughs in this area of Truro

Traffic-calming on NCN route 3 in Carnon Downs

Short on-road section of Cornwall's Coast-to-Coast Trail

The very narrow quiet lanes northwest of Truro have been closed to motor vehicles except for access - cue the familiar complaints about war on motorists etc. [abandoned October 2022]

Crossings at the A393/A3047 junction

Traffic calming with cycle bypass, Falmouth

The old road is actually still viable for cyclists as an alternative to slogging up the hill on the A394.

Break My Neck Lane - which turned out to be a perfectly normal paved Cornish road.

NCN route 3 to Lamorna

NCN route 3 west from the Lamorna junction

NCN route 3 makes a very sharp turn here, from north-east to north-west.

Good permeability on this housing development on the edge of Truro.

Poor footway by the A30 Penzance bypass near the youth hostel

The No Entry sign in the distance actually leads to Penlee Park in Penzance

Virgin 'Street' in St Ives

End of footpath (which should be widened for shared use) at the north end of Helston.

Informal pedestrian crossings only at this roundabout on the newish A394 Helston bypass

Cycle lane on the A30 St Erth roundabout - not very welcoming.

Cycle lane by the A30 (it's a better idea to take the old road via Hayle unless you like fast motor traffic)

Cycle lane by the B3301 to Hayle from the St Erth roundabout; and for cyclists crossing the B3301 to stay on the A30 (not a great idea).

Cycle lane on the A30 St Erth roundabout - not very welcoming.

Cycle lane on the A30 at the St Erth roundabout

Back lane in Helston, leading to footpath across the road.

Just a bit of white paint for cyclists here, although there was plenty of space to do something decent when the big new Tesco supermarket was built.

The Leats, a quiet lane behind Truro's main shopping streets

More confusing backstreet routes in Penzance

Crossing and footpath off the A390

Boscawen Street, part of the NCN looking towards City Hall and the war memorial.

Start of foot/cycle route from the centre of Mevagissey to the north

The bottom of Ciff St, supposedly a dead end and unsuitable for motor vehicles - in fact a quiet route for cycles (with good brakes) into Mevagissey from the north. Probably best to dismount here and go either left or right.

Supposedly a dead end and unsuitable for motor vehicles - in fact a quiet route for cycles (with good brakes) into Mevagissey from the north - keep left here.

Alternative route just above the main A3074 into St Ives - it would be nice if (one day) cyclists could use this in both directions.

Poor crossing of the A3074 between Carbis Bay and Lelant

Entry to the Penzance Park & Ride (not yet open)

Work is needed on this crossing if the path to the left is to provide off-road access to Helston.

Narrow bridge. I grew up near here and we all cycled to our summer jobs - but I'd never seen a lycra-clad cyclist here until yesterday. [update 2022 - since the launch of the CTC's West Kernow Way this year we're seeing a lot of … [more]

Double yellow lines on Penzance's main shopping street, ie parking for cars with disabled permits. Most traffic is uphill here with only buses, taxis and bikes going downhill.

Semi-traffic-free route to central Truro

Useful route for cyclists parallel to the A30

Very un-cycle friendly roundabout on the A30

Sudden appearance of a cycle lane entering Newlyn on NCN route 3 - but the promenade to the left needs improving first.

Cyclists towards Penzance join the former A30 here.

Footway crossing the A30

Dropped kerbs at this crossing on the footway by the A30 towards Penzance.

Peaceful rural scene on NCN route 3

Cyclists on NCN route 3 towards Penzance have to cross the road to reach the new shared-use path.

Quiet route from central Fowey

Largely traffic-free route into Fowey

Limited space for cyclists and pedestrians entering Mevagissey

Link from the Truro relief road to Lemon Quay and NCN route 3

Cut-through to the main pedestrianised shopping street, Wadebridge

Quiet alternative route from the Camel Trail into Wadebridge (more or less on the old railway alignment, I think)

Are these meant to be cycle lanes on Wadebridge's bridge?
